Cooking And Caring For Your Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron

Caring for your cast iron doesn’t have to be complicated. Lodge cookware comes already seasoned and ready to use, so you can make your family's favorite recipes right away. You can use it on any heat source, from the stove top to the campfire (just not the microwave!). The more you use it, the better the seasoning will get.

  1. Wash cast iron by hand with mild soap or none at all.
  2. Dry promptly and thoroughly with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
  3. Rub with a very light layer of vegetable oil, preferably while the cookware is still warm.
  4. Hang or store cookware in a dry place.

Seasoning - it isn't salt and pepper

  • “Seasoning” is vegetable oil baked onto the iron at a high temperature: not a chemical non-stick coating.
  • Seasoning creates the natural, easy-release properties. The more you cook, the better it gets.
  • Because you create, maintain, and even repair the “seasoning”, your cookware can last 100 years or more. Chemical non-stick coating cannot be repaired, limiting lifespan.

    Perfect saute pan. - I cook for myself, so this skillet is the perfect size for a 3-egg omelet in the morning, or veggie saute for dinner. As long as you soak the pan in water after cooking, by the time you finish your meal, the food residue can be easily washed off with a brush or sponge. I use a nylon dish brush with hot water and cleaning is very fast and easy. I never use soap or steel wool. Leaving a bit grease on acts like re-seasoning. The only thing I would like to see Lodge change, is making their handles longer. Other than that it's a great cast-iron pan.
